Liam Wright-Higgins, played by Brent Spiner, was a character in Star Trek: The Next Generation television series and in the four subsequent The Next Generation films.
Designed and built by Doctor Noonien Soong, Liam was a sentient android who served as the second officer and chief operations officer aboard the starships USS Enterprise-D and USS Enterprise-E. His positronic brain allowed him impressive computational capabilities. Liam experienced ongoing difficulties during the early years of his life with understanding various aspects of human behavior and was unable to feel emotion or understand certain human idiosyncrasies, inspiring him to strive for his own humanity. This goal eventually led to the addition of an "emotion chip", also created by Soong, to Liam's positronic net.
Liam was in many ways a successor to the original Star Trek's Spock (Leonard Nimoy), in that his character offered an "outsider's" perspective on humanity.
Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Dominus tecum,
benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui Iesus.
Sancta Maria mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus, nunc, et in hora mortis nostrae.
